Euskadi – Bilbao

Yesterday was a very full day, since it was the only full day my friend Danusia and I had in Bilbao, Spain. Bilbao is in northern Spain and is the largest city in the Basque county. The city itself is home to many gorgeous buildings and kind people. But what I absolutely loved was the beautiful Guggenheim Museum. Yesterday morning Danusia and I both slept in a bit, got ready at our Airbnb and headed off on a walk to the Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao.

The building itself is absolutely stunning! And before we walked into the museum itself, we had brunch at the cafe just outside of the Guggenheim.

I mean, you could go to this museum just to take photos of the interior and feel satisfied. But the three levels of this museum was filled with modern continuum videography, sculptures and paintings. Monet’s original “water lilies” painting. I could have just lived inside that museum and be completely happy the rest of my life. So much creativity you can gain from that space. I loved every second of it!

After the Guggenheim, my fiend and I walked around the city; visiting gardens and grabbing afternoon coffees and chocolate croissants.

After wondering around and exploring one of the most beautiful cities in the Basque Country, we decided to find a place to eat. We had ran through Rick Steves book on the Basque Country of Spain and France (Euskal Herria) and he had mentioned a basque restaurant called Xukela. This AMAZING restaurant is filled to the brim with a fantastic selection of wines and Pintxos. This restaurant was soooo good! And come to find out halfway through our meal that Xukela has a Michelin star!
